In May 2011, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued a decree establishing a public authority, now known as Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), to oversee Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC). Since its inception, DHCC has become home to two hospitals, over 90 outpatient medical centres and diagnostic laboratories with over 2000 licensed professionals, occupying 22 million square feet. As per the decree, HH Sheikh Mohammed also appointed HRH Princess Haya as Chairperson of the Authority. With the healthcare sector being the most important service sector in Dubai and across the UAE, HRH Princess Haya continues to implement HH Sheikh Mohammed’s vision by assessing all previous shortfalls and re-aligning Dubai Healthcare City to create an internationally renowned site and centre for integrated medical services. At the forefront of the plan is the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center (MBRM AMC), the academic and research arm of Dubai Healthcare City and hub for DHCC’s educational components. Research and academia, being a top priority for HRH Princess Haya, has paved way to open dialogue in an effort to strategically draw attention to DHCA’s multi-disciplinary approach as well as highlight the numerous programmes to soon be offered by the Center.
